16TH OCTOBER - A HISTORICAL DAY IN HISTORY OF MEDICAL SCIENCE!
Life expectancy for human beings was roughly 40 years around 1850s in US! Today it’s almost doubled!
What was the cause?
There are many! But, one of the important event took place on 16th October,1846 which was important invention to increase human life expectancy!
THAT WAS INVENTION OF ANAESTHESIA!
This ranks as one of the most significant events in the history of medicine and took place at the Massachusetts General Hospital, home of the Harvard School of Medicine. Dr Morton demonstrated first ether anaesthesia publicly.
The discovery made it possible for patients to obtain the benefits of surgical treatment without the pain associated with an operation.
Think of smallest of surgery without anaesthesia! Will you allow surgeon to put a knife on your skin without anaesthesia?
Anaesthesia is not only about making patients sleep or making half body numb! Anaesthetsts are peri-operative physicians. They take care of you before, during and after surgery to make your surgical experience pain free!

It is important to meet Anaesthetist before surgery so that he/she can plan safe anaesthesia for you.
Always meet your anaesthetist before surgery and never forget to thank him after surgery because:
“Anaestheists are the doctors who keep patient alive while surgeons are removing diseased part from your body or repairing it!”
