Do children have the right to ask their parents about the finances at home? Parents earn but everyone spends. At times, someone in the family starts spending unwisely and therefore others object. When children grow old, they understand the situation as well as implications. It is good for the parents to make them economically literate, wise and alert. Financial discipline, budgeting and investing are to be learned and enforced.
The same stands true for an organization.
Therefore this request toMai-Baap of IAP (senior functionaries) from their children, the common IAPans.
We do not know how and how much IAP earns every year?
We do not know how much are fixed expenses of running IAP?
We do not know how much are the savings with IAP, how are these invested and what for?
We do not know who is entitled to spend how much?
We do not know who is spending how much and which part of it could have been saved?
Who is travelling by air and staying in hotels and for what? Did it benefit IAP in any way? Can meetings be conducted on group calls and video chats to save time and money?
How much are the office expenses for personal offices and how much is their utility?
How much is IAP property being utilized? How many meetings are being conducted here and not in hotels now?
Every business enterprise calculates ROI (return on investment).
How much is the contribution to IAP fund from conferences? Are conference organizers submitting their accounts in time? Does IAP have powers to regulate conference expenses or that is left entirely to organizers?
Do we have comparison available between different terms of office bearers of their income and expenses. Did we reward good workers or punished misdeeds?
Do we have a team like finance commission in IAP that manages income, budget the programs, keep eyes on expenses, do audit of chapters/ programs and regulate conference economics.
Do we envision something creative with surplus of conferences. Can we donate that amount to the corpus of FBS so that public money ultimately reaches public.. Can we pay it as research grant to institutions or scholarships to needy youngsters? Can it be utilized for the benefit of IAP members in form of books or other modes of learning?
IAP is saving lakhs in stationary and postage by using emails now. We can make saving in many more ways.
Money with IAP is public money, we all own it and therefore it is our sacrosanct duty to use it judiciously.
My appeal is not for pointing fingers but to ensure financial discipline, avoid profligacy and do budgeting for betterment of IAP and all IAPans. We have to set standards and make protocols here too.
